Pear and Beet Smoothie with lettuce

This colourful drink is filled with skin loving ingredients, is easy to whip up for a quick breakfast or snack, and uses low and moderate salicylate and amine ingredients making it the perfect skin friendly drink.

Beetroot is an important vegetable for eczema sufferers as it has strong alkalising properties which boost liver detoxification of chemicals. Beetroot is abundant in antioxidants, folate, iron and choline (which helps to prevent fatty liver).

Pears have a unique combination of insoluble and soluble fibre, which helps reduce the risk of inflammatory diseases. Pears are also a good source of vitamin C which is an important cofactor in the synthesis of collagen and maintaining healthy skin.


Make this recipe gluten-free and Paleo-friendly by choosing a gluten-free plant based milk such as hemp milk or cashew milk.

  • 1 pear, peeled, core removed, cubed (pre freeze if desired)

  • 1½ cups oat milk or plant-based milk of choice

  • 1-2 tablespoons grated fresh beetroot/beets

  • ½ cup chopped iceberg lettuce

  • handful of ice cubes

  • optional: ¼ to ½ teaspoon of flaxseed oil or hemp seed oil


Place the ingredients and ice into a high-speed blender and blend on high until smooth.
